For the second year in a row, Flushing Hospital Medical Center was the birthplace of the city’s first baby of the new year.
On Dec. 30 the hospital, which delivers more than 3,000 babies annually, admitted the pregnant Tania Shirin, 25, a Jamaica resident from Bangladesh to the medical center and 36 hours later she had the first baby of 2018 in New York City, according to hospital staff.
The first time mom delivered Kazi Ariana Shirin, a girl weighing 4 pounds and 11.5 ounces, at 12:01 a.m., the staff said. The baby is also 18 inches long.
According to the hospital, the baby’s original due date was Jan. 10.
Baby and mom were both doing well, according to hospital spokesman Andrew Rubin.
