Organizers of the very first St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Bayside started working on it last September. So no one was more happy to see the parade’s Grand Marshal, PBA President Pay Lynch, step off to start the march down Bell Boulevard last weekend.

Half a dozen marching bands and just as many pipe and drum corps provided the music for the parade, which ran for nearly 90 minutes. More than 35 other groups — from the Bayside Little League to the Ancient Order of Hibernians — marched from 35th Avenue to 41st Avenue.

A sunny day with temperatures in the 40s brought out some of the biggest crowds in recent memory. Estimates ranged to more than 1,000 spectators, without counting the youngsters sitting on dads’ shoulders.

If you missed it — or if you were there — here’s a sampling of what the day looked like. See more photos on our Facebook page.
